Things to Do in Ella
Demodara Nine Arch Bridge
Built by the British in 1921, this iconic bridge is one of Sri Lanka's most photographed spots. Watch a train pass over for the perfect shot - reminiscent of the Hogwarts Express!
Tip: Check train schedules for the best photography. Early morning has fewer crowds.
Little Adam's Peak
An easy to moderate 1-hour hike with spectacular views of the Ella Gap. The starting point is a 15-minute walk from town near Flower Garden Resort.
Ella Rock
A more challenging trek offering what many consider the best view of the Ella Gap. Walk along the train tracks to find the starting point near Kithalella Railway Station.
Ravana Falls
One of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka, located just 10 minutes from Ella town. Right by the main road, it flows best during the rainy season.
Tip: Swimming is not advised but many locals do wade in the lower pools.
Ravana Ella Caves
Legend says King Ravana hid the kidnapped Princess Sita in these caves. Located 2 km from town with a steep climb to reach them.
Ella Wala Falls
A hidden waterfall about 20 km from Ella with a natural swimming pool at its base. Less crowded than other spots and perfect for a refreshing dip.
Tip: Not recommended on rainy days. Bring swimwear!
Lipton's Seat
A famous viewpoint in the Dambatenne Tea Estate where Sir Thomas Lipton used to survey his tea empire. 360-degree views of the surrounding hills.
